Identity
You can't tell what you want or who you are anymore and the question has been getting louder.
You built a life. You may have built it well by external metrics. You’re not where the life is taking you anymore, or the life that was supposed to feel like yours doesn’t, or you’ve started to wonder whether you ever knew what you wanted in the first place. The lost-ness isn’t a malfunction. It’s information. The structure that was working has stopped working, or it never quite worked, and you’re looking at what’s underneath.
Lost is what happens when the script stops fitting. The script isn’t the only thing available.
I don’t know what I want. And the absence is louder than it used to be. → I don’t know what I want
I’m having a midlife crisis. Or whatever the current version of that is. → I’m having a midlife crisis
I’m having a quarter-life crisis. And nobody told me this stage existed. → I’m having a quarter-life crisis
I don’t feel like myself anymore. The version of me I knew has gone quiet. → I don’t feel like myself anymore
I feel like an impostor in my own life. I’m performing the life rather than living it. → I feel like an impostor in my own life

Advice about purpose, finding your passion, or following your truth assumes what you actually want is locatable through introspection. For most people in this position, introspection has already failed. The underneath isn’t missing. It’s been buried under decades of small daily decisions designed to be acceptable to other people. The work isn’t to discover what’s underneath. The work is to stop running the daily habits that have been keeping it out of view.
You can’t introspect your way to the underneath. The introspection has been part of what’s been keeping the underneath underneath.
Inside strategic therapy you change the specific daily decisions you’ve been making that have been preventing what’s underneath from being available to you. The patterns change. What’s been buried becomes detectable, not as an insight, but as something you can actually feel and act on.
Your lost-ness resolves into specific information about what you actually want. From there, you know what to do.
