Self
The voice in your head has been telling you you're not enough for years and you can't tell anymore whether it's right or just loud.
The relationship with yourself isn’t a feeling you have. It’s a structure you’ve built. The voice that criticizes you, the comparisons you make, the standards you can never meet, the certainty that you’re not good enough: all of these are responses you’ve been running for so long that they’ve become automatic. They feel like the truth about you. They aren’t. They’re a system that’s been running.
The self-hatred isn’t an honest assessment. It’s a pattern that’s been training itself for decades.
I have no confidence. And I’ve never had any. → I have no confidence
I’m a perfectionist. And the perfectionism is exhausting and never enough. → I’m a perfectionist
I’m never good enough. No matter what I do. → I’m never good enough
I’m a people-pleaser. And I’ve lost track of what I actually want. → I’m a people-pleaser
I compare myself to everyone. And I always come out worse. → I compare myself to everyone
I don’t know who I am. And the question has been getting louder. → I don’t know who I am
I’m jealous of everyone. And I hate that I am. → I’m jealous of everyone
Affirmations and self-love advice assume the problem is the absence of positive thoughts. The problem is the presence of the system that’s been generating the negative ones. Adding positive on top of a system that’s running negative produces brief relief and then the system reasserts itself. The work is in the system, not in the layer of affirmations on top.
You can’t think your way out of self-hatred. The thinking has been the system.
Strategic therapy treats the relationship with yourself as the structure it is, then works the structure directly. Whatever your version (the inner critic, the perfectionism, the comparing, the pleasing, the not-knowing) gets addressed at the second it activates, with assignments built for the way your particular system runs. The relationship reorganizes because what’s been organizing it stops getting fed.
The voice in your head stops being the operating system. You stop being your own opponent.
